According to IGN, Deadline Hollywood Daily, and Superhero Hype, Chris Hemsworth has been cast as Thor in Marvel's movie adaptation. He's done a few TV shows and can currently be seen as Kirk's dad for the first five minutes of the new Star Trek movie. I can see this working, but he probably wouldn't have been my first choice.
Apparently the director, Kenneth Branagh, wasn't too impressed by him at first either. But after a second audition, Branagh was blown away. I thought he would have went with actor Kevin McKidd, from Journeyman and Rome. McKidd always came off as cool and powerful and already had the olden language down pact. Oh well. I guess he was a little too short. McKidd is only 6'0'' while Hemsworth is 6'3''.
If height is what matters, 6'3'' still seems a little short to me. I always envisioned Thor being around 6'9''. He should have the stature of a power forward from the NBA. I'm not sure if Hemsworth is stocky enough to play Thor right now either. Hopefully, Branagh will have him bulk up a little bit to pull off the look of the God of Thunder.

I think Kenneth Branagh should play Thor. The guy is an awesome actor. He could handle just about any role!
ReplyDeleteThe guy looks like Dr. Donald Blake, and fits that role well. Hopefully they will buff him up a bit. As far as height, there are always camera angles. Could have been worse, they could have picked Triple H.
