New Comics - June 10, 2009

The book I am most looking forward to this week is definitely Amazing Spider-Man #597. Joe Kelly has done a tremendous job creating an intriguing and funny story about Peter trying to protect his best friend. I can't wait to see some more Venom impersonations and how much it fools the Dark Avengers.

Another book I am very much looking forward to reading is Green Lantern Corps #37. Last issue Soranik found out she's the daughter of Sinestro, one of the most feared men in the universe. Will she understand his point of view or become more determined than ever to stop him. Some effects of the prison break on Oa may materialize and hopefully we'll see some Red Lantern action too.

DC also has two other fairly large books shipping tomorrow. The third part of Geoff Johns' Flash: Rebirth series will be hitting stands. I've never been a big fan of the Flash, but maybe the new Black Flash plot twist will lead somewhere cool. Batman #687 will be the first issue of the series to feature Dick Grayson as Batman. His first time out in the Bat suit is supposed to be the main premise of this one with guest appearances by Superman and Wonder Woman. I won't be purchasing it though. I'll get my Batman fix from Grant Morrison's series.

Something pretty interesting from the Marvel side is Beta Ray Bill's mini. Galactus destroyed the world Beta Ray Bill was destined to protect a while back, and he is determined to bring Galactus to his knees. I am huge fan of Galactus, so this one intrigues me a little, but not enough to buy it right off the bat. I'm gonna wait for the trade on this one.

Uncanny X-Men #511 is due to released. This issue will be the last of the Sisterhood arc. Will Jean Grey be resurrected? And will Psylocke become something of significance?

Last, but not least, X-Factor #44 comes out tomorrow. Layla Miller's return has sparked my interest in this series. I will be picking this one up just to see what Peter David has in store for the Girl Who Knows Stuff. However, since I'm not a real expert on all things X-Factor, a buddy of mine might be providing you with the first review by someone not named John Champion Gray. He's a huge fan of the X-Factor series and should be able to provide a better analysis of the issue. Hopefully he'll post it Saturday. If he doesn't, expect one from me.
