Cable #14

Messiah War continues in this issue (and I use "continue" very loosely). The story has been progressing very slowly and there is still no way of knowing where it will lead.

Picking things to talk about is actually pretty hard to do. With nothing happening in the story, I have nothing to analyze. For example, at the end of the last chapter Archangel finds a weakened Apocalypse. I had high hopes for that cliffhanger, but it goes nowhere.

Apocalypse: Help Me.
Archangel: No!
Apocalypse: You suck.

Stryfe doesn't do much in this issue either. He talks to Warpath a little bit. He tries to figure why Hope is important a little bit. He fights Bishop a little bit. Oh yeah, Bishop makes his move in this issue. Bishop finally gets face to face with Hope after all those years and then...contemplates about how he's killing a child. Well that took a little too long because Stryfe wasn't having that and beat down the lame Bishop.

The biggest problem is that we still don't know the significance of Hope. What is her power? What makes her so important to the future of mutants? How does Cable know? Hopefully, some of these questions will be answered in Messiah War...eventually.

The art matches the pace of the story perfectly. Ariel Olivetti provides his usual bland style to this issue. Backgrounds are ugly and characters aren't detailed. Overall, his panels are just boring to look at.

I had high hopes for the Cable series after Messiah Complex. After more than a year, nothing has happened though. I sincerely hope something significant comes from Messiah War soon.
